This is a Victorian walnut purdonium coal scuttle box, with a hinged fall-front door. The piece features a shaped gallery back, brass side handles, and a carved floral panel to the front. Inside, it retains a metal liner for holding coal. The box stands on small castors for ease of movement.

The coal scuttle shows age-related wear, with surface marks, scratches, and some fading to the polish. The carved panel remains well defined, and the brass fittings show tarnish consistent with age.
