An Antique 18th Century Carved Large Coffer Blanket Box ~Delivery Available~

A substantial 18th century oak coffer / blanket chest with a wonderfully characterful, time-worn appearance. The piece features a panelled hinged lid, strong plank construction and a particularly decorative front with three deeply carved foliate panels, geometric inlaid banding and further carved detail to the lower corners. The carved decoration may be a later 19th-century addition, something that was commonly done to earlier furniture to update its appearance and suit changing tastes.

The coffer is in excellent antique condition for its age, with the expected marks, knocks and surface wear that give it plenty of character. There is evidence of historic woodworm, particularly to the rear, but this has been inactive for some time. The lid opens to reveal a generous storage interior, making this a very practical piece as well as an attractive example of early furniture. Please see the photographs for a closer look at the condition, construction and decorative detailing.
